Every time I forget about this glaring PC issue it just pops right back up
Another day, another melted 5090 power connector - and this time it happened to Hardware Unboxed on Youtube
An ASUS ROG Astral card pulled power so inefficiently that the 16 pin connection traveling from the be quiet! Dark Power 13 power supply hit around 175 degrees CELSIUS - or around 347 fahrenheit - before fusing with the plastic end pieces
This is significantly hotter than what’d be required to give someone third degree burns, and Hardware Unboxed is saying that the issue was NOT user error - it was fully seated in this situation
5090 cables have been melting left and right since the things first released back in the beginning of 2025, and in this particular situation, it seems like it happened due to a current imbalance that spread the load out very inconsistently across the connection’s pins
