In a marketplace in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province,
a man was arrested after being betrayed and ultimately died for his cause.

His name was Seo Byeong-hui (徐丙熙).

Once an ordinary traditional physician in Yangsan,
he abandoned a peaceful life when Korea faced the Eulsa Treaty,
the Jeongmi Treaty, and the disbandment of the Korean army.

He met righteous army commander Heo Wi along the Imjin River,
joined the advance toward Seoul,
and later returned to the Yeongnam region to continue the armed resistance.

From guerrilla battles in Gyeongju and Ulsan
to the victory at Duryanggok in Sancheong
and the attack on the police station in Chilwon,
Seo Byeong-hui fought against overwhelming odds.

His struggle lasted only a few years,
but his story represents the countless unnamed fighters
who refused to surrender their country.

This historical novel also traces the older tradition of the Icheon Seo clan—
from the legendary story of Seo Sin-il,
to Seo Hui's diplomatic victory over the Khitan,
and the famous phrase Iseop Daecheon (利涉大川),
