This footage shows an elite officer tackling a technical course during the annual "National Police Motorcycle Safe Riding Competition" in Japan. Top officers from across the country gather to compete and defend the honor of their respective prefectural police departments. Just qualifying is considered an extraordinary feat: being selected is the highest honor for a motorcycle officer.

Despite the name "Safe Riding," the competition is extreme. In addition to battling the clock, grazing a pylon or having any part of the motorcycle (including the bank sensors) touch the ground results in an immediate penalty. They must maintain a perfect "Zero-Touch" run while pushing to maximum speed in a confined space. This clearly distinguishes it from ordinary gymkhana. Even in pouring rain, the rules remain the same.

Look closely at the bank sensors on the footpegs. You will notice a black resin cap. This is for the final verification after the run. The judges are absolute professionals who will not miss the slightest scraping sound, but they still physically touch this cap to certify that the "zero-touch" rule was observed down to the millimeter.

The motorcycle is a Honda CB1300P ("P" stands for Police). For safety reasons during the competition, the mirrors and instruments are removed, but the regulation side panniers and crash bars remain, bringing the total weight to approximately 300 kg (660 lbs).
