Graduate Sia Ravat delivers her graduation oration at our summer 2026 ceremony 🎓
Speaking on behalf of her fellow graduates, Sia reflects on an undergraduate journey that began with nerves, excitement, suitcases, big questions and “probably too many things from IKEA”. From walking across the Meadows and lunches with friends to discovering that Edinburgh can bring all four seasons before lunchtime, she captures how a new city slowly becomes home.
As students of science, Sia reminds us that discovery rarely happens in a straight line. And as Edinburgh Medical School celebrates 300 years of medicine, it’s a fitting moment to celebrate a legacy built on curiosity, discovery and care. She also pays tribute to the staff, friends, family and loved ones who helped make this achievement possible, because “none of us got here entirely by ourselves”.
Her message to the graduating class: trust the unexpected path, keep learning, keep asking questions, and keep choosing the life that feels right.
