People approach, embrace, and linger within soft inflatable-membrane art installations. Inflatable models seem to naturally draw people closer. They are soft. Yet they are also resilient. They not only shorten the distance between people and the installation, but to some extent, also shorten the distance between people and their emotions. Air, this seemingly lightest, softest, and most unstable medium, has in fact been silently supporting many things all along. He proposed and practiced the concept of "Portable New Media Scenarios," integrating inflatable models, light and shadow, mechanics, and interactive installations into an emotional-space system that can tour across cities. Zhou Tianyi's works explore the dynamic relationship between light, air, and structure, turning public art into a flowing theater of "we" in the city. As the only male among the six speakers, he will bring a perspective on "softness": why, in an increasingly hard era, people instinctively gravitate toward softness. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
