Brianna Hoegler: How Phytoplankton Shape the Ocean Carbon Cycle

Brianna Hoegler, a PhD candidate in Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences, takes her audience on a journey through the ocean, from the sunlit surface where phytoplankton photosynthesize to the deep sea, where the remains of these marine organisms continue to impact our world. By investigating the contents of deep-sea sediments, Brianna hopes to untangle the roles calcifying phytoplankton play in the global carbon cycle.
