Planting more trees is often seen as a simple solution to problems like climate change and habitat loss. But it's a little more complex than it seems.

Forests are home to 80% of plant and land animal species, help regulate the water cycle and absorb and store vast amounts of CO2. With these benefits, planting more trees may sound like an obvious solution. However, large-scale tree-planting efforts could have unintended consequences and, without proper planning and research, may end up doing more harm than good. To be effective, tree-planting initiatives must be carefully designed with local ecosystems, native species, and surrounding communities in mind.
