Slicing Solid Steel with a Legendary Katana ⚔️ The Mind-Blowing 1987 Kabutowari Record

In 1887, under the gaze of Emperor Meiji, the legendary swordsman Sakakibara Kenkichi accomplished the impossible: "Tenran Kabutowari" (The Imperial Helmet Splitting). For the next 100 years, this feat remained an unbroken myth—until 1987.

Broadcasted on TBS's documentary "Chikyu Roman," a special project was launched to recreate this legend on its 100th anniversary. It brought together two absolute masters: Yoshindo Yoshihara and Terutaka Kawabata, the founding headmaster of Ryushin Shouchi Ryu.

Utilizing a masterfully forged katana that endured hundreds of thousands of folds, and applying koryu swordsmanship techniques that channeled 100% of the kinetic impact, Master Kawabata didn't just replicate history—he surpassed it. He left a stunning 4-inch (12cm) cut into the solid steel helmet, earning the Japan Budo Glory Medal.
