Why do we procrastinate even when we know exactly what we need to do? In this talk, the speaker explores the struggle between motivation, distraction, and passion through relatable experiences with schoolwork, social media, and everyday procrastination. Moving beyond simple productivity advice, the talk examines how having a meaningful goal can create the motivation needed to take action, while genuine passion can help individuals resist external expectations and pursue paths that truly matter to them. Drawing on personal experiences and the pressures faced by many young people, particularly within Asian households, this talk encourages students to reflect on what drives them, challenge the limitations placed upon them, and find the courage to pursue goals of their own.
Hello! My name is Dustin James Hung Cruz, or just Dustin! My background is that I am half-Taiwanese and half-Fillipino and that I was raised in Canada for a vast majority of my life. For me myself, I’m an extremely talkative individual that can never seem to shut up at all.
As for my TEDxYouth speech, I will be presenting it in English. The topic that I’ve chosen, which is to ignite passion and motivation within individuals, was chosen by myself due to I, myself wishing to help others recognize their motivations of what they want to do with their lives without the influence of others that wish to control them. This I would say is also something extremely personal and relevant due to myself growing up in an Asian household where I was not given much of a say in issues. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
