Nintendo released the N64 3 DECADES ago on September 29th, 1996 with just TWO launch titles - Mario, and Pilotwings 64
MSRP was 200 US dollars, which, adjusted for inflation was around 420 in today’s money, making it STILL more affordable than any new current-gen console even by today’s standards - and it went on to platform some of the most highly regarded video games of all time
It was originally under the codename “Project Reality” and set to release in arcades in the year 1994, but it wound up being renamed to the Ultra 64 - which had distinctly different hardware that’d wind up in certain cabinets during that time before eventually graduating to the N64 we all know and love
