An orphan’s wedding, which was supposed to be a quiet one in the mountains of SW China’s Yunnan Province, became one of the most talked-about events on the Chinese internet over the weekend.

A sea of tents filled the town square, miles of mountain roads were lined with vehicles from across China, and dozens of giant woks fired up from dawn to dusk to feed tens of thousands of unexpected guests.

Not a extravagant celebrity union, but a wedding hosted
by a 24-year-old orphan groom who, just days prior, feared he would be celebrating almost completely alone.

The groom, Xu Chenghong (known online as "Xiao Xiao Xu"),
lost his father at age three, his mother remarried two years later;
grew up with virtually no family support.

Having dropped out of middle school to support himself through
construction and delivery work, Xu managed to save
over 160,000 yuan to marry the woman he loved.

Yet, as preparations began, the couple realized their guest list could barely fill three tables.

Hesitant to give his bride a quiet, empty room, Xu posted
a simple invitation on Douyin, asking if any nearby internet users
would be willing to stop by and help "fill the seats.”

The response quickly turned into a nationwide sensation.

Tens of thousands of strangers traveled to Yiliang County from regions including Hong Kong, bringing gifts ranging from livestock
to refrigerators and wedding cars to bless the newlyweds.

Local authorities also stepped in to deploy 5G signals, manage traffic, and set up medical support.

What began as a humble appeal for company ultimately became a landmark demonstration of digital solidarity and community warmth.
