On October 15, 2026, President Michael I. Kotlikoff delivered his State of the University address at the Cornell University Board of Trustees and University Council Joint Annual Meeting (part of the Volunteer Summit) in the new Meinig Fieldhouse.
In the address, he discusses recent events that have deeply affected the Cornell community and the university’s responsibility to support and care for its members. He outlines the beginning of a sustained, community-wide effort that includes a thorough review of campus practices and structures, and he expresses gratitude to and concern for those who have come forward to share their experiences.
President Kotlikoff also reflects on Cornell’s 161-year mission of education, research, and public impact, while addressing the broader challenges facing higher education—including the work of the Committee on the Future of the American University.
