김장무 보다 작지만 김치를 해 놓으면 아싹한 맛을 자랑하는 알타리무 김치이다.
알차리무 심는 시기는 지역과 품종에 따라 다르고 또한 식성에 따라 다르다.
그러나 대체적으로 9월 중순 전후해서 씨앗을 파종하여 11월 중하순에 수확하면 대체적으로 모든 이의 입맛에 맞다.
