After the Second World War, Germany was divided into two separate states: East Germany and West Germany. Although both shared the same history, language, and culture, they developed along very different paths. West Germany adopted a democratic system and a market economy, while East Germany came under Soviet influence and followed a communist model. As a result, their political systems, economies, living standards, and social structures became increasingly different over the following decades.
