When a car gets older, the metal sleeve inside the lower shock absorber bushing often rust-welds itself completely solid to the suspension mounting bracket. When you remove the main bolt, the shock refuses to budge, leading most DIY mechanics to violently smash it with a hammer, which usually just bends the bracket!
Instead of fighting it, this mechanic uses a brilliant physics hack! By threading a nut onto a spare bolt, wedging it inside the lower bracket, and using a wrench to hold the nut in place, they turn the bolt into a miniature hydraulic press! As the impact gun spins the bolt upward, the threads mechanically force the shock absorber up and out of the tight housing, breaking the rust free with zero physical effort!
