Age Is Just a Number. Maturity Isn’t. | Jihène Tlili | TEDxIdeale School Youth

We often hear, “You’re too young to understand,” as if age automatically comes with wisdom. But does it really?

This talk challenges the idea that maturity can be measured by age. By exploring emotional growth, childhood experiences, trauma, parentification, and the different ways people develop, it questions why young people are so often dismissed as immature while some adults remain emotionally stuck. Ultimately, the talk invites us to rethink what maturity truly means—and to recognize that growing older and growing wiser are not always the same thing. Jihène Tlili is a 16 year old MYP 5 student at Ideal school, she loves all things science from biology to physics and often does personal studies on medical topics. She enjoys playing chess and reading books and one of her biggest accomplishments is being mentioned in an article about a theatrical piece she did to bring awareness on HIV.
