Although the Earth forces overwhelm the mobile suit-equipped ZAFT in various regions, the conflict drags on contrary to expectations. Eleven months after the “Bloody Valentine”, Kira Yamato, a Coordinator youth living in the neutral industrial colony of Heliopolis, becomes entangled in a ZAFT operation to capture the Gundams. Participating in this operation is Kira's former best friend, Athrun Zala, who is now a ZAFT soldier. The two share a fateful reunion amidst the flames of war. However, to protect his Natural friends, Kira boards the Strike Gundam—the only unit to evade capture—and finds himself forced into battle against Athrun...
