What actually lives inside the primary case of a V-Twin motorcycle engine?! ๐Ÿ๏ธโš™๏ธ
Unlike a traditional car engine where the transmission is bolted directly to the back of the motor, many heavy-weight cruisers and V-Twin motorcycles use what is called a "primary drive." The engine's crankshaft spins a front compensator sprocket, which uses a massive, double-row metal chain to turn the clutch basket attached to the transmission!
Normally, this entire mechanical ballet is completely hidden behind a thick aluminum cover and submerged in primary fluid to keep the chain cool and lubricated. In this incredible visual, the mechanic is running the engine with the cover totally removed! You can see exactly how the rotational force is transferred, and watch the yellow chain tensioner doing its job to prevent the metal links from violently slapping around under load!
