넷플릭스 드라마 「들쥐」는 이름과 얼굴, 인생을 빼앗긴 소설가의 정체성 추적을 그린 스릴러다.

드라마 속 ‘들쥐’는 음침하고 더럽고 가짜 같은 존재로 그려진다.

하지만 이것은 인간의 불안과 정체성 혼란을 표현하기 위한 문학적 은유일 뿐이다.

실제 들쥐는 포식자를 피해 풀숲과 굴, 나무 밑에 몸을 숨기며 살아가는 야생동물이다.

들쥐가 더럽다는 인식도 생태적 사실과는 구별할 필요가 있다.

That's Just the Human Gaze

The Netflix drama Wild Mouse (들쥐) is a thriller about a novelist tracking down his stolen identity after his name, face, and life are taken from him.

In the drama, the "field mouse" is portrayed as a sinister, filthy, fake sort of creature.

But this is nothing more than a literary metaphor for human anxiety and identity confusion.

Real field mice are wild animals that live by hiding themselves in grass, burrows, and beneath trees to evade predators.

The perception that field mice are "dirty" also needs to be separated from ecological fact.

Some field mice can serve as natural reservoirs for hantavirus, but not all field mice carry the virus.

Nor are field mice animals that live solely on garbage or rotting food.

They eat seeds, grain, fruit, grass, and mushrooms, as well as insects and small invertebrates.

They have also been observed adapting to urban parks and green spaces.

Alongside the question the drama poses — "Who am I?" — it's worth taking another look at the images we ourselves have projected onto animals.
