Deebo Samuel is BACK in San Francisco, and his 49ers homecoming couldn’t have started much better. After spending the 2025 season with the Washington Commanders, Deebo Samuel returned to the San Francisco 49ers for the 2026 NFL season, reuniting with Kyle Shanahan, Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Nick Bosa, Fred Warner and a familiar Niners organization. In his first regular-season game back, Deebo immediately reminded everyone what made him one of the NFL’s most unique offensive weapons, catching six passes, making plays as a runner and returner, and scoring a touchdown as the 49ers dominated the Los Angeles Rams 27-7 in Melbourne. Deebo’s 15-yard touchdown reception from Brock Purdy finished an incredible 99-yard drive and helped put the game away as San Francisco scored 24 unanswered points. The moment was even bigger because 49ers vs Rams was the first regular-season NFL game ever played in Australia, with 100,021 fans packing the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the historic NFL Australia game. After six seasons with San Francisco, a 2021 All-Pro breakout with 1,405 receiving yards, years of dominating as the NFL’s famous “wide back,” multiple deep playoff runs and a Super Bowl appearance, Deebo spent one year away before finding his way back home to the Bay Area. Now Deebo Samuel is once again wearing red and gold in Kyle Shanahan’s offense alongside Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Mike Evans and the rest of the 49ers, and his first game back showed exactly why San Francisco wanted him home.
