Yudu County in east China's Jiangxi Province is the historic starting point of the Long March. There, the performance The First Crossing of the Long March brings a chapter of Chinese history back to life through the stories of ordinary families caught in a defining moment.
Actress Li Fang plays Fu Sao, a mother who sends her two sons to join the Red Army. Fu Sao had little formal education but she deeply loved her country and urged her children to fight for a better future. Her sons never came back home. More than 90 years ago, thousands of Red Army soldiers crossed the Yudu River and set out on the Long March. Today, at the very place remembered as the "First Crossing of the Long March," Li Fang revives Fu Sao's family story and her final message to her boys – "Fight well. Win more battles. Mom will wait for you to come home."
Through one mother's farewell, a chapter of history comes alive, reminding us of the courage, sacrifice, and hope carried by countless ordinary people on that extraordinary journey.
