Portrait of an Engineer as A Young Artist | Celine Shaw | TEDxUCLA

Celine Augustine Shaw talks about cultivating viriditas—the medieval concept of the mind's sovereign greening power—as a source of planetary resilience and human growth. Drawing on quantum sensing and neuromorphic computing alongside classical art and poetry, she argues that the quality of one's love for knowledge quietly governs the quality of one's learning and one's making. Celine Augustine Shaw is a materials engineer and intellectual architect whose work unites rigorous quantum optics with the timeless grace of classical artistry, designing across scales from the atomic to the planetary. She is also the founder of l'Ballet du Célestin, a Bay Area chamber ballet company, and finds that her technical and artistic practices spring from one quiet sanctuary. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
