들깨를 밭에 심고 어느 정도 자라면 수확량 증대와 태풍 피해를 방지하려면 해 주어야 할 일이 있다.
바로 순치기이다. 들깨는 약 40~50Cm 정도 자라면 일정한 높이를 정해서 잘라 주면 곁가지가 많이 나와 들깨 수확도 많고 또한 들깨가 높이 자라는 것을 지연 시켜 태풍과 같이 비 바람이 불어오는 이상 기후 일 때 쓰러지는 것을 방지 할 수 있다.
들깨는 일단 쓰러지면 수확량 감소를 감수 해야 한다.
그래서 들깨 순치기는 8월 이전에 해 주어야 하고 너무 늦은 시기 즉 꽃대가 올라 올때 하면 오히려 수확량이 줄어 들므로 시기가 중요하다.
