“Colossus” is an invitation for listeners to visualize themselves overcoming adversity.
Leoncarlo Canlas’s piece begins with an intentional breath— a gesture of stillness and resilience.
The music becomes a space for us to open our hearts. What will emerge?
Through his creative skills and experiences as a musical artist, performer, and educator, Leoncarlo holds space for audiences to resonate with deeply impactful moments. With his trusty violin and array of mysterious gear, he wields a living sound described by those who've experienced it as radiant and mesmerizing.
From his early days of studying classical violin and jazz / rock fusion in the DC metroplex, through his formative years as a student at the University of North Texas, Leoncarlo has been relentlessly charting new sonic landscapes through out his career. His journeys have taken him from intimate busking spots and hidden corners of music scenes, to hallowed concert halls and international stages, including major music and film festivals. Today, his artistry transcends far beyond the traditional notions of violin performance. This is especially clear in his collaborations across different musical genres and even other forms of art. From his circles of beloved friends and colleagues, beautiful things have emerged such as ballet productions, scores for independent films, and special events alongside painters, poets, chefs, dancers and more. At the heart of his process, Leoncarlo leaves space for the spirit of a moment to embody itself through his performances, allowing for uniquely beautiful experiences that embrace ephemerality.
