San Diego FC's Playmaker of the Match | Guillermo Hoffman

San Diego–born artist Guillermo Antuna Hoffman, the son of Mexican immigrants, draws from a bicultural upbringing shaped by life between San Diego and Tijuana.

Inspired by his mother’s artistry, graffiti, and masters like Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, and Francisco Goya, Guillermo blends street art with grotesque imagery, vivid color, and the energy of border culture. For this Playmaker project, he brings that perspective to life through the Golden Eagle and Bald Eagle, symbols of Mexico and the United States and the connection between two nations that are more intertwined than divided.

At the heart of the work is fútbol, a universal language that brings people together across cultures and borders. His piece celebrates the idea that life is an elegant chaos, and that our shared humanity is stronger than the differences that separate us.
