Marathons may be exhilarating events, but the road closures they require can make getting around a challenge for local residents. At the recent Hangzhou Marathon, traffic police used what's known as the "bubble method," also referred to as the "pendulum" or "island" method. Pedestrians and scooter riders were guided through the stream of runners inside a moving enclosure. The approach is not new and more Chinese cities have adopted their own versions in recent years. The method has been praised as a practical way to accommodate major sporting events while keeping everyday traffic moving. #Trending
