JD Vance went from being a vocal critic of Donald Trump to serving as his vice president.
In his 2016 memoir, Vance describes growing up in a struggling family in Ohio. His grandparents had moved there for work in the steel industry, but economic decline left many communities facing poverty, unemployment and addiction. Vance writes about "a family and culture in crisis."
Since winning a US Senate seat in 2022 with Trump's backing, Vance has emerged as one of the most prominent voices in the MAGA movement.
The next US presidential election is scheduled for 2028. Could JD Vance be the next US president?
