《조숙진: 지나가는 자리》는 남서울미술관 야외 정원에 설치되는 신작 〈삶의 색채–모여라 꽃!〉에서 시작됩니다.

이 작품은 남풍을 타고 중국 해역에서 굴업도 해안으로 밀려온 폐어구를 수집해 철제 구조물 안에 채워 넣은 장소특정적 설치 작업입니다. 2024년 목기미 해변에 설치했던 작품을 이번 전시를 위해 새롭게 재제작했습니다.

오랜 시간 해안에 쌓인 폐어구들은 자연의 지형을 바꾸고, 수백 년 동안 썩지 않는 인공의 지층이 됩니다. 조숙진은 이 버려진 사물들을 인간의 시간이 남긴 흔적이자 변화한 세계를 다시 바라보게 하는 ‘목격자’로 제시합니다.

이번 영상은 〈삶의 색채–모여라 꽃!〉의 제작 과정을 따라가며, 조숙진의 변하지 않는 작업 태도와 《조숙진: 지나가는 자리》를 관통하는 세계를 먼저 전합니다.

𝘚𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘑𝘪𝘯 𝘑𝘰: 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘎𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘐𝘯 begins with the new work 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦—𝘍𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘉𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘮!, installed in the outdoor garden of Nam-Seoul Museum of Art.

This site-specific installation is made from discarded fishing gear carried by southerly winds from the waters of China to the coast of Gureopdo Island, collected and packed into a steel structure. Originally installed on Mokgimi Beach in 2024, the work has been newly recreated for this exhibition.

Accumulated along the coast over time, the discarded gear alters the natural terrain and becomes an artificial stratum that will not decompose for hundreds of years. Jo presents these abandoned objects as traces of human time and as “witnesses” that allow us to look again at a transformed world.
