왜 지금 세계는 다시 동양의 미에 주목하고 있을까요?

여백의 미, 붓과 먹의 흔적, 병풍과 자개, 오방색 그리고 한복.
오래된 전통이라고 생각했던 동양의 미학은 지금 패션과 인테리어, 현대미술 속에서 새로운 모습으로 다시 등장하고 있습니다.

그리고 이런 동양에 대한 매혹은 사실 새로운 현상만은 아닙니다. 코코 샤넬 역시 동양의 예술과 미학에서 많은 영감을 받았죠.

이번 영상에서는 우리가 익숙해서 오히려 지나쳤던 동양의 아름다움은 무엇인지, 서양은 왜 오래전부터 동양의 미에 매료되었는지, 그리고 그것이 오늘날 어떻게 현대적으로 재해석되고 있는지 이야기해봅니다.

마지막으로 제가 작업하고 있는 Zen Pop을 통해, 전통을 그대로 재현하는 것이 아니라 동양의 사유와 미학이 현대의 Pop과 만났을 때 어떤 새로운 표현이 될 수 있는지도 함께 이야기합니다.

Why is the world turning its attention to Eastern beauty again?

Negative space, expressive brushstrokes, folding screens, mother-of-pearl, traditional colors and Hanbok — aesthetics rooted in centuries of Eastern culture are finding new life in contemporary fashion, design and art.

And this fascination with the East is nothing new. Coco Chanel was also deeply inspired by Eastern art and aesthetics.

In this video, I explore what makes Eastern beauty so distinctive, why the West has long been fascinated by it, and how traditional aesthetics are being reinterpreted for a new generation.

I also introduce my concept of Zen Pop — where the philosophy and aesthetics of the East meet the visual language of contemporary Pop.
