What if the way we judge food shapes the way we judge people? Jadyn McLean explores the cultural, historical, and social forces behind ethnic food in America, uncovering how our perceptions of what we eat influence identity, bias, and belonging. This talk invites us to rethink food not just as fuel but as a powerful lens for understanding each other.

Jadyn McLean is passionate about advocacy and community engagement. She is a graduate of NC State University, majoring in Criminology and Psychology with minors in Linguistics and Cognitive Science. Jadyn is a Ronald E. McNair Scholar and University Honors student who has presented at undergraduate research conferences across North Carolina. She is also a mentor and activity director with College Mentors for Kids, a founding executive member of Black Psychology Club, and an undergraduate researcher in the Social Development Lab, where she is leading her own project on children’s safety perceptions. She plans to get her PhD in Clinical Psychology and become a forensic psychologist who specializes in at-risk children and adolescents.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
