Kaliningrad: the Russian military stronghold surrounded by NATO

A look at this 15,000-square-kilometer Russian region, wedged between Poland and Lithuania, whose capital, Kaliningrad, has become the headquarters of the Russian fleet, housing nearly 30,000 troops. In this territory governed by the pro-Putin Anton Alikhanov—reelected for a second term in September 2022—the majority of the population supports the war against Ukraine, despite the European Union's economic embargo. Along Kaliningrad's borders, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia—concerned about Vladimir Putin's expansionist ambitions—are doing everything possible to defend themselves.
