In a way, Sony is like the reverse Theranos. They constantly said it couldn’t be done, but the tech was hiding in their backrooms the entire time.
Despite them insisting that backwards compatibility was a massive nightmare due to time and money, as soon as jailbreaks hit the wide set of owners of the PS5, the support for older PlayStation titles has gone at a dizzying speed.
Not only is there PS2 emulation support just up on the 5, they’ve finally made it so you can just boot into the games straight from the newest consoles home menu.
Instead of it saying the disc is incompatible, it just loads up the artwork and then you can click through for the emulator to boot that one game up. A seamless experience that Sony swore wasn’t ready for prime time.
