Learn your shapes with Numberblock Four! In this fun 2D shapes song for kids, Four throws a party in Flatland to find out what makes a circle, a triangle, a square and a rectangle.
What makes a shape a shape? Its sides and its angles. A circle has one curved edge. A triangle has three straight sides of any length. A square has four sides that are all exactly the same length. A rectangle has four right angles, and its opposite sides match: two longer, two shorter. A shape's colour, size and the way it's turned don't change its name, so a square is still a square when it spins round or changes colour.

Try it at home or in class
Go on a shape hunt and find a circle, a triangle, a square and a rectangle. Count the sides on each one. Then ask: if the square changes colour, is it still a square?
Who it's for
Preschool, nursery, LKG, UKG, Reception, kindergarten, Year 1 and Grade 1. Supports Year 1 of the national curriculum in England (recognise and name 2-D shapes, including rectangles, squares, circles and triangles) and US Common Core standards K.G.A.2 (name shapes whatever their orientation or size) and 1.G.A.1 (tell defining attributes like sides apart from colour, orientation and size).
