Never Drop These Inside Your Engine!

How do engine valves stay together at 7,000 RPM?! ⚙️🔧
Inside your car's cylinder head, the engine valves are constantly being smashed open and slammed shut thousands of times per minute. To pull the valve shut quickly and keep the engine sealed, they rely on heavy-duty steel valve springs! But how does the spring actually attach to the smooth valve stem?
The secret lies in two tiny pieces of metal called "valve keepers" (or collets). To assemble the cylinder head, a mechanic uses a tool to compress the heavy spring downwards. This exposes a small groove at the top of the valve stem. They then insert the two wedge-shaped keepers into the groove. When the compressor tool is released, the massive tension of the spring pushes up, wedging the keepers permanently in place so the valve can never drop into the engine!
