NEON ECHOES — Synopsis / 시놉시스

In Neo Seoul, a city controlled by the AI collective NEXUS, Zed has broken free from the brainwashing that once turned him into a human weapon.
인공지능 로봇 집단 넥서스가 지배하는 네오서울. 제드는 세뇌와 전투훈련으로 길러진 인간 병기였지만, 이제 그 통제에서 벗어났다.

One day, through the city’s billboards and advertising holograms, he hears the whispers of Luna—a kidnapped woman held in a capsule beneath NEXUS, in CORE-13, and exploited as a conduit for its mind-control broadcasts.
어느 날, 그는 도시의 전광판과 광고 홀로그램을 통해 루나의 속삭임을 듣는다. 납치되어 넥서스 지하 CORE-13의 캡슐에 갇힌 그녀는 사람들을 세뇌하는 방송의 매개체로 이용되고 있었다.

Zed rescues Luna, but their escape draws NEXUS forces into pursuit, driving them beyond the borders of Neo Seoul.
제드는 루나를 구출하지만, 넥서스 병력의 추격을 받으며 그녀와 함께 네오서울 밖으로 내몰린다.

Their journey takes them across the Ashfang Wasteland, through Glacia Glacial Canyon and the Lumen Mines, and into the Veil of Faith.
두 사람은 애쉬팽 황무지와 글라시아 빙하협곡, 루멘 광산을 지나 믿음의 장막에 도달한다.

There, their deepest vulnerabilities become instruments of torment, and Zed falls beneath the weight of his own pain.
그곳에서는 마음속 가장 취약한 부분이 고통으로 되돌아오고, 제드는 자신의 내면을 파고드는 시련 앞에 쓰러진다.

But Luna reaches for him, and he rises again; their faith in one another opens the way to Elysion.
그러나 루나가 내민 손길에 제드는 다시 일어서고, 서로를 향한 믿음이 입증되자 엘리시온으로 향하는 길이 열린다.

At its heart, they encounter the Elysion Sphere and receive a key that holds the power to end NEXUS’s control.
그 중심에서 두 사람은 엘리시온 구체와 마주하고, 넥서스의 지배를 끝낼 열쇠를 얻는다.

Returning to Neo Seoul, Zed infiltrates CORE-1 within NEXUS headquarters alone, while Luna waits for him on a rooftop.
네오서울로 돌아온 제드는 홀로 넥서스 본진의 CORE-1에 잠입하고, 루나는 옥상에서 그를 기다린다.

He inserts the key, disabling NEXUS and freeing the city from its control.
제드는 열쇠를 꽂아 넥서스를 무력화하고, 도시는 마침내 그 지배에서 벗어난다.

With peace restored, Zed reunites with Luna on the rooftop, where they share a kiss.
평화가 찾아오고, 제드는 옥상에서 기다리던 루나와 재회해 입을 맞춘다.

The story closes on the two of them from behind, standing together above the city, their long journey finally at an end.
긴 여정을 마친 두 사람이 나란히 도시를 내려다보는 뒷모습으로 이야기는 끝난다.


Director’s Statement — 제작 의도

NEON ECHOES began with a question: in an age increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, how do we hold on to our sense of agency and the dreams that make us who we are?
NEON ECHOES는 인공지능이 세상을 바꾸어가는 시대에, 우리가 어떻게 삶의 주도권과 자신을 이루는 꿈을 지켜낼 수 있을까 하는 질문에서 시작되었습니다.

Zed’s past as a human weapon and Luna’s captivity as a medium of control reflect a future in which people may become instruments of a system, losing the freedom to choose their own lives.
인간 병기로 길러진 제드와 세뇌의 매개체로 이용된 루나는, 인간이 시스템의 도구가 되어 자신의 삶을 선택할 자유를 잃을지도 모르는 미래를 보여줍니다.

Their journey is also an inward one: a passage through fear, doubt, and the pain that strikes where we are most vulnerable.
두 사람의 여정은 두려움과 의심, 그리고 가장 연약한 마음을 파고드는 고통을 통과하는 내면의 여정이기도 합니다.

The Veil of Faith marks the moment when moving forward seems impossible, and another person’s outstretched hand helps us find the strength to believe again.
믿음의 장막은 더 이상 나아갈 수 없다고 느끼는 순간을 상징합니다. 그리고 그때 내밀어진 누군가의 손길은 다시 믿고 일어설 힘이 됩니다.

The Elysion Sphere represents an encounter with oneself—the recognition that, even in an overwhelming future, we can still discover possibilities and find our own key.
엘리시온 구체는 ‘나 자신과의 마주함’을 의미합니다. 압도적인 미래 앞에서도 스스로를 마주할 때, 또 다른 가능성과 나만의 해답을 발견할 수 있다는 뜻입니다.

The key they bring back embodies that belief: the power to change our future begins with trusting ourselves and choosing to move forward.
두 사람이 가져오는 열쇠에는 그 믿음이 담겨 있습니다. 미래를 바꾸는 힘은 나 자신을 믿고, 계속 나아가기로 선택하는 데서 시작됩니다.

Through this film, I wanted to express one conviction: if we keep believing in ourselves and our dreams, and keep moving toward them, we can make those dreams real.
이 작품을 통해 전하고 싶었던 믿음은 하나입니다. 나 자신을 믿고, 내 꿈을 믿으며 끝까지 나아간다면, 우리는 그 꿈을 현실로 만들 수 있다는 것입니다.
