This talk explores how humans have repeatedly outsourced judgment to systems, rules, machines, and now AI, often gaining speed and efficiency while losing reflection, accountability, and moral responsibility. From industrialization and bureaucracy to automated hiring and algorithmic decision-making, it argues that the real danger of “singularity” is not simply machines surpassing humans, but humans stopping the practice of judgment itself. Through historical and modern examples, the talk makes the case that technology should amplify human decision-making, not replace it, and that empathy, context, critical thinking, and responsibility must remain at the center of any human–machine collaboration. Serdzan Arnautovic is a global people and business leader with experience across technology, emerging markets, and organisational growth. He has held leadership roles at Amazon, where he led physical product launches across Europe and developed internship and diversity programmes, and at Meta, where he supported talent programmes across emerging markets. He also contributed to Cequens’ IPO readiness and international expansion. With an academic background spanning International Relations, Business Intelligence, Big Data, and organisational development, Serdzan specialises in people strategy, human capital, and the intersection of technology and human potential. He is also a speaker, advisor to high-growth startups, and contributor to organisations supporting entrepreneurship and business development, with speaking engagements including Women in Tech Africa, Istanbul Brand Week, and ITDOD. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
