Do You Need to Master Hangeul Before Learning More Korean?

Everybody says Hangeul is easy, and other learners seem to pick it up in no time. So if it’s taking you a little longer, should you stop and wait until you can read quickly and confidently?

My answer: keep going. Keep practicing Hangeul, and keep learning Korean, especially through listening and speaking. When I started Japanese, I didn’t know all the hiragana and katakana yet, but I could hold basic conversations within a few weeks by focusing on sounds. Once I could say the words, learning to read them became much easier.
