Foreign vessels in Hormuz collision choose Chinese court to settle dispute

A collision between two foreign vessels near the Strait of Hormuz in 2025 gave rise to legal claims exceeding $23 million. Although the accident involved companies from multiple countries and spanned several jurisdictions, the dispute was ultimately resolved by the Guangzhou Maritime Court in China.

Despite taking place thousands of miles from Chinese waters, both parties agreed to submit the case to a Chinese maritime court for resolution.
