Iran-backed Houthi rebels capture Yemeni port on crucial strait

Yemen's Houthi rebels, Iran's most powerful regional proxy, have captured the key Yemeni port city of Mocha, according to Yemen's internationally recognized government.

Some 50 miles south of Mocha sits Perim, a small island in the Strait of Bab al-Mandab, a geopolitical pinch-point that’s taken on an outsized importance since US President Donald Trump’s war with Iran effectively shuttered the Strait of Hormuz.
