Yingge Dance: The heroic spirit of the Chaoshan coast

On China's southern coast, it is known as the hero's song. Dancers paint their faces and grip a pair of short wooden batons, which they strike together in rhythm – the drums thunder, the singing soars and the movements surge like the tide. This is Yingge, a dance that originated in Guangdong's Chaoshan region and is performed to dispel misfortune and summon courage. It celebrates justice, unity and an indomitable spirit. #NiHaoChina
