Beginning with a deliberately convincing argument about smoking, it demonstrates how confidence, emotion, repetition, and identity can make even a fabricated story feel real. The talk then examines how narratives operate in society, particularly through political discourse, media, and everyday language, showing how repeated stories can become accepted as common sense. It concludes with a call for intellectual freedom: to recognise the narratives influencing us, hold competing stories side by side, and become more conscious of the stories we ourselves pass on. Suhail is driven by curiosity and a desire to understand how ideas shape the way we see the world. Fascinated by the questions behind our beliefs, he explores why certain stories endure, how narratives influence our thinking, and what happens when we learn to question them.
