Donald Trump is privately weighing whether to declare America’s war with Iran over despite the Pentagon preparing for the fight to stretch into 2027 with troop deployments.
The dramatic split exposes mounting uncertainty inside the administration over whether Washington has truly secured victory against Tehran.
Trump reportedly believes economic pressure and overwhelming US firepower have left Iran collapsing and America with “almost total control” of Hormuz.
But War Secretary Pete Hegseth is quietly extending deployments, with around 50,000 US troops and 19 warships still stationed across the region.
The Pentagon’s preparations suggest Washington is bracing for more trouble even as Trump considers telling the nation the brutal conflict has finally ended.
