China's C909 Flying Eye&ENT Hospital conducts Kyrgyz aid mission, marking global surgical milestone

The C909 Flying Eye and ENT Hospital—co-developed by Fudan University’s Eye & ENT Hospital and COMAC—landed in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, marking its second Central Asian aid mission under the Belt and Road Initiative. On September 24, the mobile platform performed the world’s first in-flight ENT surgery, expanding its clinical scope beyond ophthalmology while providing $196,000 USD (1.4 million RMB) worth of specialized diagnostic equipment and consumables to local healthcare providers.

Operating alongside Bishkek's presidential clinical hospital, the Chinese medical team delivered 1,712 consultations and performed 139 surgeries, including 111 complex cataract procedures. Beyond immediate clinical care, the project focuses on sustainable capacity building through digital integration, remote diagnostics, and clinical training. Since its 2025 maiden flight, the flying hospital has delivered thousands of treatments across Laos and Kazakhstan, strengthening regional health cooperation along the Air Silk Road.
