How Gen Z Sees the World: American in China says the two countries are built to work together

Kris, an American social media manager working in Shenzhen, shares her firsthand experience of what China is really like. Before traveling to China, she imagined a traditional country; after arriving, she discovered modern cities, advanced technology and a highly convenient way of life. What struck her most was the efficiency of interconnected systems. Through Alipay, she can not only make payments, but also book high-speed train tickets, reserve hotels and arrange international mobile service — all in just ten minutes. She also felt the warmth of ordinary people: her apartment manager is learning English just to communicate with her directly. She believes young people especially can see that today's China is not the China their parents described. Regarding current China-US relations, she admits the US may view China as a competitor, but she hopes the US will treat China not as a rival, but as a partner — "There's a lot of things that both countries can bring to the table and can further develop the world together."
