Ilhan Omar has raised fresh eyebrows after giving an unusual answer when pressed about claims involving her former husband.
Asked whether there was any truth to allegations she married a relative, Omar replied, “Not to my knowledge.”
The Minnesota Democrat called the long-running claims “insane” and said they originated on a Somali blog before spreading online.
Omar said strangers were later quoted claiming she had introduced Ahmed Nur Said Elmi as her brother, which she strongly disputed.
The exchange came in her first interview since federal agents searched her Washington home as part of an immigration-related investigation.
