It took a while, but there’s FINALLY an actual benefit to using Linux
Your age will no longer be private data online in California after the beginning of 2027, UNLESS you’re using Linux as your primary operating system
The Digital Age Assurance Act is meant to protect kids online by shifting the onus of collecting age data from software providers to operating systems - but Assembly Bill 1856 makes it so open-source ones are exempt from the thing entirely
Under this new change, linux distros are explicitly excluded since they’re technically copies and modifications of Linux proper
App stores are also supposed to send what’ll be known as “Age Signals” - but since repo’s can’t technically be considered stores in the traditional sense, those’re safe, too - kinda like how safe our PC giveaways are over on Twitch
