Inside Oleshky: Life Under Russian Occupation

For four years, Oleshky has been cut off from the rest of Ukraine. Now, its people finally have a way out — but it runs through Russia.

UNITED24 Media spoke with Volodymyr, who spent a year in a Russian prison for helping Ukrainian soldiers and was tortured. He tells what life under occupation really looks like.

We also joined soldiers of the 11th National Guard Brigade on a night mission to drop almost four tons of food into the town by heavy bomber drones.

On October 27, a ceasefire brokered with the help of US First Lady Melania Trump took effect around Oleshky. But those who want to reach Ukrainian-held territory must travel through occupied Crimea, Russia, and Belarus first.
