Construction of Charles Bridge began in 1357 under King Charles IV, and today, 30 Baroque statues of saints stand along the bridge. Among them, the most famous is the statue of St. John of Nepomuk.

According to legend, he kept the Queen’s confession secret, which angered the King, and as punishment, he was thrown from this bridge into the river.

Over time, stories spread that touching the golden relief beneath the statue would bring you back to Prague, make your love come true, or bring you good luck. Even today, countless tourists line up to touch it, which is why that particular part of the relief shines so brightly.

Once you cross Charles Bridge, you are soon connected to Prague’s Old Town, making this a prime location that attracts huge numbers of visitors. The bridge is packed with people during the day, but it is also absolutely beautiful at night.
