A few days ago Putin showed up in a Russian voting propaganda video, and the PC on screen had the Activate Windows watermark in the corner. That sent me down a rabbit hole. Cheap grey market keys that work for a few weeks and then die, and the leaked Windows XP key a lot of us were running back in 2001 (you know the one, FCKGW). Microsoft even buried the corpse of Microsoft Bob inside XP to stop people from cheating, and it still got out five weeks before launch. As much as I love FCKGW, there's no way the Kremlin is running it, and Microsoft hasn't sold anything in Russia since 2022 anyway.
