What if losing a match could be just as valuable as winning one?
For many young athletes, sports can feel like they are all about the scoreboard, medals, trophies, and being the best. But sport teaches us something much bigger than how to win. It teaches us how to grow.
In this talk, 12-year-old Sasath explores the idea that winning is not the only measure of success. Every training session, every mistake, every defeat, and every challenge is an opportunity to become stronger, more disciplined, and more confident.
Through the world of sports, Sasath shares how losing can teach resilience, competition can teach respect, practice can build discipline, and setbacks can help us discover what we are capable of achieving.
The final score tells us who won the game—but it does not tell the whole story.
The real victory is in becoming a better version of yourself than you were yesterday. V. P. Sasath Pasandul Vitharana is a 12-year-old student of Trinity College, Kandy, with a passion for sports, music, and personal development.

An enthusiastic sports lover, Sasath believes that **sports are more than competition—they are a powerful way to develop discipline, perseverance, teamwork, responsibility, and self-confidence. Through his TEDx talk, Sports and Discipline, he explores how the habits developed through sports can shape young people both on and off the field.

Beyond sports, Sasath has a strong love for music and guitar , using music as another avenue for creativity, expression, and learning. His interests reflect his belief that young people can grow by balancing physical activity, creativity, education, and discipline.

At just 12 years old, Sasath brings a youthful perspective to an important idea: discipline is not simply about following rules—it is about building the habits that help us become the people we want to be. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
